Objective

Read and identify numbers (1st, 10th, etc.) and understand ordinal numbers. Recognize digits and their place values (ones, tens, hundreds, etc.). Apply simple methods for counting, comparing, and ordering numbers.

Number concepts involve understanding the value, order, and position of numbers. This includes recognizing digits, reading numbers, and comparing values using simple methods.

Board & Chalk, Flashcards with numbers, Number grid (1–100), Number line

Session Plan

(120 MIn)

Intro Activity (15 minutes):

NUMBER HUNT Provide flashcards with numbers written on them (1st, 2nd, 3rd... or 10, 20, 30...).

Students need to find their match or arrange themselves in order based on the number they have.

Main Topic/ Activity:

Objective: Help students relate numbers to real-life situations.

Story Time (20 minutes)

Tell a short story about a treasure hunt where clues are given using ordinal numbers (e.g., “The clue is hidden at the 5th tree from the left.”). Ask students to identify the correct tree and continue the story with other similar clues.

Demo Time (30 minutes)

Draw a number line on the floor (1–100). Call out a number (e.g., 25, 40).
Students must find the number and stand on it. Alternatively, they can find numbers based on clues like, “Find the number that is 10 more than 30.”

Time to Solve (20 Minutes)

Divide students into small groups and provide worksheets with the following exercises: Arrange numbers from smallest to largest. Identify the place value of underlined digits. Match ordinal numbers with their respective positions (e.g., 3rd, 5th, 10th).
